Have you ever thought about how many things we do on autopilot? Breathing, of course, is the most fundamental, but what about all the other habits that happen without our conscious involvement? Recently, I’ve been reflecting on the power of pausing and using these automatic moments as opportunities for mindfulness.
One practice I’ve started is using doorways as reminders to breathe. For me, a doorway represents a portal into a new experience. Each time I step through one, I take a deep breath and say, “I am here now.” This small act has transformed the way I move through my day. It’s a reset button, a moment to ground myself and release preconceived notions about what lies ahead.
Walking into the dentist, for example, is usually something I dread. But lately, I’ve been experimenting with taking a deep breath and saying, “Here we go, this is going to be fun.” It sounds silly, but it shifts my energy. Instead of bracing myself, I open up to the possibility of a different experience. Life is unpredictable, and that’s part of its beauty.
Another place where I’ve started practicing this is with my phone. How many times do you pick up your phone in a day? I’ve lost count. But now, each time I reach for it, I pause, take a deep breath, and ask myself, “What am I trying to distract myself from?” It’s a startling realization: I’m often not picking up my phone because I need to but because I want to escape the present moment.
What if, instead of scrolling, I looked out a window or noticed the details of my surroundings? What if, just for a day, I put my phone away and lived? I’m exploring this practice, and I’d love to hear how it feels for you if you try it.
Speaking of mindful practices, I’ve created something to help bring more conscious positivity into daily life: my I AM Superpower Cards + Guidebook for Harnessing Your Superpowers. These cards and book are designed to inspire and anchor you in the present moment. Whether you’re starting your day or need a reset, pulling a card offers a quick and meaningful way to refocus your energy.
If you’re curious, check out my Kickstarter campaign—it’s a project I’m incredibly excited about. And as always, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Let’s keep finding those little moments of presence together. Here’s the link! Thank you for being here, reading and supporting my words. I’m grateful for you.
With enthusiasm, Lisa-
